Our dog day care is operated by qualified dog care specialists from our 435sqm facility in central Christchurch. We provide a safe, positive, healthy and stimulating environment where your dog’s well-being is our upmost priority. The doggy daycare program is designed to socialise dogs by age, temperament and individual needs. The way a dog will socialise and play changes as they age and will largely depend on their background and upbringing. We provide a specially designed service which is anchored to the psychology of each age group, allowing them to associate with like peers in environments which suit their specific social skill set.
Our daycare and training specialists work together to provide situational life skills learning for all daycare groups. This includes teaching all dogs to handle some of the daily life challenges they may face such as scooters, bikes and noises (fireworks etc.); further enhancing their lives and reducing their stress outside of our care. We don't use aversive techniques to control the dogs, our training and experience gives us the skill to use positive only measures.
Puppy Daycare, 8-16 weeks:
This is the formative period of a puppies life. Experiences during these 8 weeks will form the basis for how they interact within the world for the rest of their lives. Young pups only learn in short intervals (5-15min) and then need time to consolidate their learning, this makes it hard for puppies to learn from puppy classes alone (people training). At PAWS we understand this; we offer new puppies their best chance at a bright future by giving them an environment where they can learn and time to retain and reinforce their learning in our specialised puppy care facility. Puppies have two separate heated/cooled areas within our daycare which are sterilised regularly. Because of a puppies immune deficiency they're not able socialise with the older dogs until after their final vaccinations. Our low stimuli puppy areas offer individual and group rest den spaces and to control hyper arousal we govern play and reward calm responses. We also give them the opportunity to undertake our specialised puppy program; including calm and focus training, hyperarousal control, correct dog/dog social skills, learning about sounds and substrate based toilet training- not to mention the endless learning opportunities available as they learn from each other- checkout the cute photos on our Instagram and Facebook!
As a puppy learns and develops through their juvenile period they need to continue to develop life skills based around appropriate play and interaction with their peers and the environment. Their size, energy and lack of experience can sometimes get in the way of positive interactions which can induce adverse associations with other dogs. At PAWS we dedicate a space to these future leaders of our K9 community. We integrate toys, obstacles and objects into their normal play environment which help them to continue developing their understanding of the world they live in. We work with our training specialists to monitor the puppies behaviour and help them to understand how best to interact with their peers and our people. It’s important to give these adolescent dogs the chance to develop in a safe environment where their naivety doesn’t become a hindrance on their positive development. As they progress in our care they will graduate to the adult environment, this assures each dog can come to daycare and interact in a safe environment which fits with their individual social abilities.
This service is ideal for anyone who has an older puppy which may’ve missed the social part of their formative period (8-16 weeks). At this age poor behaviours are most easily reshaped so don’t delay, enquire today.
Adult Dog Daycare:
Our qualified dog care specialists provide a safe, stimulating and hygienic daycare environment for dogs of all shapes, sizes and energy levels. We have several social areas designed to allow dogs to interact with like peers, ensuring they’re always in situations they feel comfortable with. Additionally we have areas which allow shy dogs to observe the others and slowly integrate into the daycare environment.
Daycare is a great outlet for dogs with excessive energy, apparently naughty or destructive dogs, anxious dogs and any dogs involved with our training clinic- we’re able to reinforce training whilst in daycare.
Elder Dog Daycare:
At PAWS we love and respect the senior members of our K9 community. As loved family members age their requirements and capacity for socialisation change. Keeping their mind active while allowing them to rest their body is important. Controlling separation and routine based anxieties start to become a considerable factor in keeping them happy and healthy. One of the defining influences to dogs co-evolving along side us is their capacity to live in social communities. We have a specially designated area for them to relax while maintaining the social and mental stimulation they need to remain healthy and happy.ENROL TODAY
